A Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix was first discovered by the Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM), organized in 1949. The commercial rights are the property of Dorna Sports.

The teams are from the International Road Racing Teams Association (IRTA) and manufacturers represented by the Motorcycle Sport Manufacturers Association (MSMA). Changes in rules and regulations are among the four people set up with Dorna casting a tie-breaking vote.

In case of technical changes, the MSMA can unilaterally determine or veto changes unanimity among its members. These 4 persons, from which the Grand Prix Commission.
